Iran Plans Nuclear Submarines In Defiance of US And Trump's Warnings

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi YJC

Under the July 2015 agreement between Iran and six major powers - Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States - Tehran pledged to restrict its nuclear program in return for relief from crippling global economic sanctions.

Deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told London's Chatham House that Trump's hostility toward the pact was creating a "destructive atmosphere" that meant businesses were afraid of dealing with Iran.

In relation to his recent trip to the UK, Araghchi said that he had had good discussions on bilateral relations and the implementation of the JCPOA with the British authorities. He said Iran doesn't need nuclear arms and will not go for the nuclear weapons.

Now that the world is recognizing the destruction that was unleashed by releasing Iran from the penalties imposed on it for repeated defiance of the UN Security Council, is the time to heed Trump's call and fix the nuclear deal.

The JCPOA was struck between Iran and Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States, then led by Barack Obama.

By United States Department of State [Public domain or No restrictions], via Wikimedia CommonsIran's threat to leave the JCPOA comes a little more than a month after President Trump announced on January 12 the USA would leave the nuclear deal unless the "deal's disastrous flaws" were fixed.

A United States exit could kill the nuclear deal, which the Islamic Republic has refused to re-negotiate. If the nuclear deal is linked to Iran's ballistic missile program or its regional activities, world powers "not only will lose the JCPOA, but will make other issues more complicated and more hard to resolve", he said. At the same time as dealing with these sanctions, Iran is dealing with anti-money laundering regulations (it was ranked as the worst country in the world on money laundering in 2016).

For two years, the United States, Iran, and other worldwide partners were on the same page regarding Iran's nuclear program, Marashi explained, meaning that "the prospects for conflict were reduced".

Russia Using Syria's Civil War to Showcase Its Stealth Jet Sukhoi 57
In 2015, the Russian government announced it would buy an initial batch of only 12 aircraft, with its entry into service expected only by 2019-20.

Iran has raised that prospect in public statements before.

US President Donald Trump has long railed against the 2015 nuclear deal for reasons including its limited duration and the fact it does not cover Iran's ballistic missile program.

Second, it must ensure that Iran never even comes close to possessing a nuclear weapon.
