Armed sheriff's deputy stayed outside Florida school while massacre took place

Sheriff says deputies will carry rifles at Broward County schools

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel announced the resignation of Deputy Scot Peterson at a press conference Thursday evening.

Israel suspended the deputy without pay until an investigation could be completed after seeing video, reviewing witness statements as well as interviewing Peterson. The shooting lasted six minutes, he added.

Deputies from a local sheriff's office in Florida are reportedly guarding the home of the resource officer who was stationed at the high school where the Parkland shooting occurred.

Until the sheriff's office obtains gun locks and lockers, rifles will be locked in patrol cars, Israel said. "Deputy Peterson, as you all know, is the school resource deputy".

Flu Cases Rising in Texas Panhandle

BSO Col. Jack Dale said two other BSO deputies, Edward Eason and Guntis Treijis, were placed on restrictive duty as investigators determine whether anything more could have been done concerning accused shooter Nikolas Cruz. He said that authorities will "make a decision about whether they could have done more" to intervene. However, Broward County Vice Mayor Mark Bogen called the visit hypocritical due to his stance on gun availability. Instead, Peterson chose to resign, Israel said, adding that the investigation will continue.

"Scott Peterson was absolutely on campus through this entire event", Israel said.

"I must say, we say on a regular basis how grateful we are for our police and our first responders", she told NPR.

The information was forwarded to the Stoneman Douglas resource officer. "Never again", he said.

BJP Tamil Nadu unit chief Tamilisai Soundararajan said Kamal Haasan may make it to the headlines but "could not become a leader". Kamal Haasan also quoted APJ Kalam saying he meant to begin his political career with the former President's vision.

Peterson was inside another building at the school handling a matter with a female student when the shooting began.

"This would obviously only be for people very adept at handling a gun", Trump said. It's unclear what role the officer played in trying to thwart the shooter, as he did not discharge his firearm.

A deputy responded and made contact with the caller, who wished to remain anonymous, and it was determined the Cruz had knives and a BB gun.
