Why Mikaela Shiffrin brought 35 pairs of skis to the Olympics

Lindsey Vonn

At 33 years old, Vonn's bronze medal makes her the oldest female medalist in Alpine skiing but the Games in PyeongChang are likely to be her last.

American skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin, who has one gold medal and one disappointing fourth-place finish at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, dropped Wednesday's downhill from her schedule, meaning she has only one more chance at a medal.

"I've been in the fences so many times", she said.

"I'm so proud to have competed with such unbelievable girls", the 33-year-old said.

Lindsey Vonn won bronze, men's hockey suffered heartbreak, the USA women finally won a medal in cross-country skiing and Serena Williams weighed in on which music she wants to hear in figure skating.

Austrian Ramona Siebenhofer set the pace in the final training run for the women's downhill on Tuesday and Lindsey Vonn's bid to reclaim the Olympic gold remained on course as she registered a top-five time for the third day in a row. I want it too much. But the next day, she skied conservatively in her signature event, the slalom, and finished off the podium in an event in which she took gold four years ago in Sochi, Russia. "I'm just proud. I'm proud to have competed for my country, I'm proud to have given it my all".

Sofia Goggia produced a storming run to win Italy's first downhill gold medallist since Zeno Colo won the men's title in 1952 and Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel, a silver medallist in the giant slalom, won the same medal again, dropping Vonn down a position after starting 19th in the field of 39 skiers. Shiffrin, who already won the giant slalom gold medal in PyeongChang, chose to instead focus on preparing for the combined event, which is scheduled for Wednesday.

Thai court hands surrogate kids to Japanese father
Shigeta, who has kept an extremely low profile, did not attend the court's sessions and had a lawyer represent him. Shigeta had asked the court to grant him sole custody and produced evidence to support his financial credentials.

But for now, she still has one event left, scheduled for Thursday.

Many pro-Trump social media users blamed "karma" after Ms. Vonn failed to medal in her opening event Saturday.

"The last eight years have been full of ups and downs", she said, "a lot of downs, I'd say, especially from 2013 until now".

"I paid attention to every little detail, moved like a samurai".

"I going to miss the Olympics and that's why I'm so emotional, ” she added".

It was a fun finish that capped a youth movement in Alpine skiing this year.

The bookmakers agree and the World Cup standings, where Goggia narrowly leads from Vonn, also suggests a duel between the pair.

Black Caps coach Mike Hesson provides a timely dose of common sense
The result leaves Jos Buttler's men without a win in the series after losses to Australia in their previous two matches. Victory stopped England from slipping to a record fifth consecutive defeat in T20 internationals, however.

"I gave it everything I had", Vonn said.

Shiffrin finished 16th in Monday's downhill training run at the Jeongseon Alpine Center. She also said she would not accept an invitation to the White House either. "I just tried to focus on two points of the slope and I skied really focused".

"We'll see what happens, but I would say 99% sure this is my last Olympics". If she had her way, she'd ski forever. "I'm really proud to have another medal".

"When you're young you ski and you win and you don't appreciate things. And I want to represent our country well and I don't think there are a lot of people now in our government that do that".

"I'm happy to do that: that's sportsmanship", said Vonn.

"But who knows, something will come out and they'll fix my knee up and I'll be like "Robo-knee" and be able to ski 10 more years, that would be ideal".
