US Airstrikes Kill 100 Russian and Syrian Fighters, Reports Say

American troops look out toward the border with Turkey from a small outpost near the town of Manbij northern Syria Wednesday Feb. 7 2018

Thursday's air strikes are just the latest in a series of deadly attacks in Syria between rival forces that have led to civilian casualties.

The US authorities added that the Syrian government forces organized and executed an attack on the Syrian Democratic forces without any form of provocation near the Khusham town on Wednesday this week.

Syrian regime forces launched a coordinated attack that included about 500 regime troops, 122mm howitzers, tanks and multiple launch rocket systems on the US-backed SDF headquarters in Deir al-Zor province approximately five miles east of the Euphrates River.

A large-scale attack by over 500 Syrian troops aligned with Bashar al-Assad on a base used by USA troops and local United States allies underscored the challenges faced by the Trump administration as it seeks to implement its long-term strategy for Syria, with both the Russian-backed regime and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally Turkey recently conducting or threating attacks against America's primary ally in Syria.

"Nobody invited them there", Vasily Nebenzya stated, emphasizing that a hard fought for stability in Syria is being jeopardized by USA actions.

At least 75 people were killed in government airstrikes and artillery attacks on the Eastern Ghouta suburbs of Damascus on Thursday, Agence France-Presse reported.

US advisers called in a rare strike Thursday on Syrian-backed forces in Deir el-Zour, site of most of Syria's oil and gas fields.

The United States said the global coalition carried out air strikes against pro-government fighters to defend its allies in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor.

U.S. warplanes and artillery batteries carried out an unprovoked massacre of up to 100 pro-government troops in the northeastern province of Deir Ezzor Wednesday, signaling the initiation of a new and far more unsafe stage in the more than three-year-old direct USA military intervention in Syria.

Also, the Russian Defense Ministry lashed out at the United States attack.

It covers north and central Sinai, the Nile Delta and the Western Desert along the porous border with Libya. The military has launched security campaigns in the North Sinai area, in which some terrorists are based.

"We suspect Syrian pro-regime forces were attempting to seize terrain SDF had liberated from Daesh in September 2017", an official said. It also said it was aware only of 25 Syrian militia members having been wounded in the USA strikes.

Russia's Defense Ministry also issued a statement condemning the USA attack, saying it proved the U.S. isn't interested in fighting ISIS, but rather in trying to seize control of Syria's economic assets through military means.

White said the attack on the SDF was unprovoked.

One SDF fighter was wounded, officials said. "If a ceasefire is not reached and if there is no response", she added, "we can not imagine the scale of the humanitarian disaster that Eastern Ghouta will witness".
