Patricia says he will coach Lions his way

New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is highly regarded for his intellect and ferocious defense

At his introductory press conference, new Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia talks about his goals for the Lions and their fan base. One of the things that made Patricia such a coveted head-coaching candidate was the reputation he built as being a coordinator who schemed a defense week to week based on the opponent. At one point during the press conference, he popped a pencil over his right ear, which was another token of his during his time with the Pats. Hopefully he offers a little more clarity on Malcolm Butler's Super Bowl benching, but given his loyalty to Bill Belichick, it's safe to assume we won't get any new answers.

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn, who previously worked in the Patriots personnel department, said he had "zero" concerns that Patricia would get cold feet. The Lions went 9-7 last season and missed the playoffs, ranking among the NFL's worst rushing teams for the fourth straight year.

After Jim Caldwell was sacked, Stafford expressed a desire to continue working with Cooter, while general manager Bob Quinn acknowledged that the new coach would have full autonomy over his coaching staff.

Amed Rosario will handle shortstop, Asdrubal Cabrera will play second base, and Adrian Gonzalez first base. Numerous biggest Major League Baseball free agents remain unsigned, but one got a deal on Monday.

Patricia pledged the Lions will be "competitive", and said his "bottom line is about winning".

"The way that he looks at the game, his vision of the game, the way that he sees the game move and change before it actually does is unbelievable", he said.

"I'll say coach Pasqualoni and I have a long history together", Patricia said. "From how to teach and coach, and the fundamental beliefs that we had in New England, which I think are strong".

Dow marks worst single-session level plunge since 2008
Even stock market bulls have long said that a pause - or even a dip - would help prevent the market from overheating. This week's market pullback has come even as USA economic data continues to reflect strong growth.

Patricia still has to lock down his coaching staff, and then begin to evaluate the roster alongside new defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni before they settle in on what kind of defense they want to be. I'm my own guy.

Davidson, 50, spent the 1997-2004 seasons with the New England Patriots in various capacities working with tight ends and offensive linemen.

He was the head coach at the University of CT from 2011 to 2013.

He also was the judge on our "Who's Super Bowl Party was Better?" Luckily for players and fans, the game will be played indoors. The later team prepared a New England themed dish.

Detroit fired Jim Caldwell after a 36-28 record and two playoff appearances because the team believed it needed new leadership to become a true contender.
