Oscars: Casey Affleck Won't Present Best Actress Award

Actor Casey Affleck has withdrawn as a presenter for the 2018 Oscars ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has confirmed.

In 2010, two women who worked for Affleck on the experimental film I'm Still Here filed two lawsuits accusing him of repeated sexual harassment and disparagement. The claims were settled out of court, and Affleck has consistently denied the allegations.

Nearly a year ago, Casey Affleck won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his work in Kenneth Lonergan's drama Manchester By The Sea.

Forget pink, David Davis just rubbed out the government's negotiating red lines
Conservative lawmaker Jacob Rees-Mogg plans to say in a speech Thursday that Britain must not be "timid and cowering" as it negotiates its exit.

After winning the Oscar a year ago, Affleck told the Boston Globe in an interview, "I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else". The specter of Affleck presenting would have created controversy.

John Oliver even took a moment on his HBO show talk about it.

Hardly any aspect of the awards season has been unaffected by the Me Too movement, from who gets nominated to the content of acceptance speeches and red carpet interviews. The ceremony takes place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday March 4.

Former KS Congressman Mike Pompeo Marks One Year at the Central Intelligence Agency
US disarmament ambassador Robert Wood said: "The United States will not recognize North Korea as a nuclear weapon state. Mr Pompeo is not the first to warn that Pyongyang's expanding arsenal could cause global nuclear proliferation.

"The story has been corrected to show the name of the mockumentary is I'm Still Here".

Deadline said Affleck was in a "no-win" situation, and that his decision to not attend the Oscars this year will make the award ceremony easier for everyone involved. Affleck won for his heartbreaking portrayal of Lee in Manchester By the Sea, so by rights he would be the one to present the statue this year.

It has been a tradition at Oscars that the Best Actor victor presents the Best Actress trophy while the Best Actress victor presents Best Actor.
