UAE to File Complaint to UN Aviation Agency Over Qatar

The incident affected a UAE flag carrier en route to the Bahrani capital, the country's civil aviation authorities were quoted as saying. The airline is owned by the government of Dubai, one of seven emirates in the UAE federation.

Alya al-Thani, Qatar's ambassador to the United Nations, said the airspace invasions constituted a "flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar, as well as a flagrant violation of the provisions of global law, conventions, charters and worldwide norms".

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday afternoon alleged that Qatari jet fighters - for the second time in one day - had "intercepted" an Emirati civilian aircraft as it approached Bahrain's global airport.

Mohammed Thamer Al Kaabi, undersecretary of Bahrain's ministry of civil aviation affairs, said that Manama had already "filed a report to the International Civil Aviation Organisation about the two separate incidents".

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain severed diplomatic and trade ties with Qatar in June over allegations Doha supported Islamist extremists and had close ties to regional rival Iran.

The claims Monday could further escalate tensions between Qatar and the four Arab nations that have been boycotting it for months, among them the UAE, home to the world's busiest global airport.

"The incident could also be seen by the naked eye by both the crew and passengers, which constitutes a clear threat to the lives of innocent civilians".

Earlier on Tuesday, the UAE said its permanent mission in NY had submitted its response to the UN Security Council, which refutes the "Qatari allegations of violating its airspace".

Airbus delivered 15 380s last year, with 12 scheduled for this year and eight in 2019, said chief executive Fabrice Bregier. Brégier said a new Airbus delivery record coupled with the company's fifth best order intake wraps up a remarkable year.

Analysts have expressed serious doubts about a claim by the UAE that Qatari fighter jets intercepted Emirati passenger planes recently.

The official said the claim that Sheikh Abdullah was being held against his will was "lies", and blamed Qatar. Doha denies the accusations. The claim was denied by Emirati officials on Sunday.

Tensions with the UAE however flared when UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan retweeted a post on Twitter last month critical of the former Ottoman rulers of the region.

The video of Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Thani recalled the weird, now-reversed resignation of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri while on a trip to Saudi Arabia, a November 4 decision that was widely seen as orchestrated by Riyadh.
