During a meeting with senators on immigration, Mr. Trump questioned why the United States would accept more people from "sh*thole countries", according to Durbin, a Democrat from IL. Prospects for a bipartisan agreement to protect young immigrants from deportation and prevent a government shutdown later this week faded Sunday as key lawmakers traded sharp accusations and President Trump said hopes for a deal were "probably dead". "This all started with a total misrepresentation of the meeting that happened last Thursday", Perdue said during an appearance on ABC's "This Week".

Meanwhile, other Republican attendees of the meeting, like Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart (R-FL), have simply remained silent on the matter or tried to dodge the question, rather than outright denying it.
