Zuckerberg changes Facebook's focus to be more 'meaningful'

The new News Feed will prioritise friends and posts that are passively consumed and generate discussions over them

Facebook announced a major update that will put friends and family above pages or celebrities in a user's news feed.

"I'm changing the goal I give our product teams from focusing on helping you find relevant content to helping you have more meaningful social interactions", Zuckerberg wrote.

Zuckerberg acknowledged that he expects this will mean people spend less time on Facebook, but he hopes the time they do spend "will be more valuable".

"But none of that matters if our services are used in a way that doesn't bring people closer together", said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on their November earnings call.

But there are also a zillion other ways you can get news from us.

Trump's FISA Tweet Shows Why the 25th Amendment Is Unnecessary
Last year, Trump accused the Obama administration of wiretapping Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential campaign. The president, she said, has been following the topic and "wanted to put something out".

The social network has become an important way for brands, media companies and other content creators to reach Facebook's growing audience, which now numbers more than 2.07 billion people. Live videos with a healthy conversation in the comments will be given more weight as well. In real life, people don't tell others to kill themselves when they say they like pineapple on pizza.

News, brand and video content has "exploded" in recent years, "crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other", he said.

Under the revised regime, there will be fewer posts from brands, pages and media companies and more from people.

Currently, News Feed has been created to share a mix of "public" content from brands along with posts by friends and family.

If Mark Zuckerberg is truly anxious about his legacy and that of Facebook, casting legitimate news publishers and businesses into the abyss will only further tarnish an image that is already deeply damaged.

Women of Democratic Party to wear all black to Trump's SOTU address
More recently, the group spearheaded a call for a Congressional investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Trump. Democratic aides predicted other lawmakers will bring guests with perspectives relevant to the harassment debate.

Facebook recently announced it will be changing its feed and algorithms so that news from publishers and posts from businesses will be relegated in favor of posts about your neighbor's cat.

This seems to be a problem for many people who rely on online social networks for getting news of local and global events happening in the country and around the world.

He quoted an academic research pointing out that interactions with the loved ones are more healthy and important for a person's wellbeing, instead of just reading news articles or watching shared videos. Updates on ranking can be expected in the next few months so Facebook users will have more opportunities for interaction. The social media platform said among its biggest focus areas for 2018 is to ensure that time spent on Facebook is well spent. That means the experience has largely centered on passive consumption of content.

The changes might make it harder to get messaging to people about a short-term sale, Taylor said.

"We believe these changes will be beneficial to Facebook in the medium and long term", said Mr Brian Weiser of the Pivotal Research Group.

Dark Souls: Remastered is coming to several new platforms
Dark Souls Remastered will include the Artorias of the Abyss DLC from the start, as well as an increased resolution and framerate. The title, considered by many to be one of the best video games ever created, was ported to Windows PC less than a year later.

Zuckerberg also said the News Feed change was meant to "make sure that our products are not just fun, but are good for people". Unfortunately, Facebook's engagement-obsessed algorithm insists there's nothing better than a baby-and shows a steady parade of children, often born to people I barely know.
