Roy Moore accuser files defamation lawsuit against him

Roy Moore

Leigh Corfman, of Gadsden, one of the women who accused Roy Moore of sexual misconduct decades ago, has filed a lawsuit against him.

On Thursday, Leigh Corfman sued Moore and his failed Republican campaign for the Senate, alleging that they defamed her "repeatedly in all forms of media, calling her a liar and questioning her motivation for publicly disclosing that Mr. Moore sexually abused her in 1979". Instead, she is requesting reimbursement of legal costs, a public apology from Moore, and a court order preventing him and his campaign from attacking her.

Corfman said Moore initiated sexual contact with her when she was 14 years old at Moore's home.

Brett Doster, a spokesman for Moore, responded to the suit by telling the Post, "We look forward to transparently discussing these matters in a court of law".

The wife of former U.S. Senate Republican nominee Roy Moore has revealed the identity of the Moores' "Jewish attorney" she mentioned in a December 11 speech.

Moore lost to Doug Jones in a special election held to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions's open seat.

In response, Moore said Corfman's allegations were "politically motivated", "completely false", and "malicious".

Moore has repeatedly denied the allegations made by Corfman and other women of unwanted romantic or sexual advances.

South Korea offers talks with defiant North ahead of Olympics
Kim said in his televised New Year's address that the two Koreas should have "immediate talks" on the matter, Yonhap reported. The pair could still be invited to compete by the International Olympic Committee.

The lawsuit also cites comments from Moore campaign surrogates - including campaign chairman Bill Armistead and campaign manager Rich Hobson, now running for Congress - that suggested Corfman was lying, including a comment from Moore spokeswoman Janet Porter that Corfman's appearance on the Today show was "an Academy Award performance".

Corfman says she was 14 when Moore, then a prosecutor in his 30s, touched her during an encounter. The lawsuit was filed a day after Jones was sworn in as a member of the Senate. He denied the misconduct allegations, saying they were a result of "dirty politics".

According to the lawsuit, Corfman is not asking for legal compensation.

But the lawsuit says Moore's claim doesn't spell out what he was asked, where the test occurred or include an affidavit from the person who gave the test.
