NY state AG to sue over net neutrality reversal

US FCC set to reverse net neutrality rules

Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson says he plans to file yet another lawsuit against the federal government: this one over net neutrality.

Net neutrality activists have staged a series of protests in cities around the United States and online, amid fears that dominant broadband providers could change how the internet works.

The Obama-era rules put in February 2015 barred broadband and wireless companies, such at AT&T Inc., Charter Communications Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. from selling faster delivery of certain data, slowing speeds for certain video streams and other content, and discriminating against legal material online. The letter included 18 attorneys general from the states of Virginia, Delaware, Hawaii, California, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, Maine, Mississippi, Oregon, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Washington, Vermont and the District of Columbia.

Substratum, a decentralized web platform, ran up to a new all time high today in anticipation of the vote. "Netflix stands w/ innovators, large & small, to oppose this misguided FCC order", Netflix said in a statement. Ro Khanna, Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney. Now he has succeeded in overturning the hard-fought rules, which came after years of legislative and legal battles.

"Sorry for the interruption", Pai said.

93-year-old forcibly evicted by police
Police officers have been filmed dragging a crying and screaming 93-year-old woman to jail in shocking footage. They tell the 5-foot-tall, 100 pound woman to relax and insist they're not putting any pressure on her.

"Chairman Pai has given internet service providers an explicit license to block, slow, or levy tolls on content", said Ferras Vinh of the Center for Democracy & Technology, a digital rights group.

But the broadband industry and its allies are trying to reassure consumers that won't happen.

"We do not and will not block, throttle, or discriminate against lawful content", said David Cohen, executive vice president for Comcast, in a blog post.

In a straight party-line vote of 3-2, the Republican-controlled FCC junked the longtime principle that said all web traffic must be treated equally. And restoring a favorable climate for network investment is key to closing the digital divide, spurring competition and innovation that benefits consumers.

Citing his investigation into the FCC's public comments process preceding the vote, Schneiderman declared his office's intention to sue to "stop the FCC's illegal rollback of net neutrality" - a forthcoming legal challenge that's sure to be in good company.

Trump signs bill barring USA government use of Kaspersky
She added that the company's software represented a "grave risk" to US national security. USA officials have said that step, while welcomed, would not be sufficient.

WASHINGTON, December 14, 2017 - The Federal Communications Commission today voted to restore the longstanding, bipartisan light-touch regulatory framework that has fostered rapid Internet growth, openness, and freedom for almost 20 years.

The San Francisco-based Electronic Frontier Foundation will back Wiener's bill, saying it's important for states to fill the void after the FCC's vote to gut the federal rules. "You injured the rules so it's harder for the agency to enforce privacy, and now the agency has abandoned privacy rules completely".

A survey released by the University of Maryland this week found that 83 percent of Americans do not approve of deregulating ISPs, including three out of four Republicans.

There's quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding just how wide of an effect net neutrality repeal would have on consumers. "This conversation belongs in Congress", he tweeted Thursday.

Left-leaning public interest groups, including Public Knowledge, Free Press and Common Cause, are preparing to challenge the FCC's decision, Reuters reported.

But critics point out that only bigger, more lucrative medical companies would be able to afford taking advantage of those fast lanes. He said existing law already protects consumers. The FCC commissioners were reportedly escorted out through a back door.
