Doubts cast on U.S. attendance at South Korea Winter Olympics

Nikki Haley thinks US athletes could skip the Olympics

Haley, when asked about the safety of the US delegation, said further conversations are necessary.

Speaking on Fox News, Haley said Wednesday night it's an "open question" if U.S. Olympic athletes will be in South Korea and competing come February.

Sanders says the goal is for Team USA to participate in the game, but that decision will be made closer in time. "That's something he would take into account, probably a number of the stakeholders that would be involved".

During Thursday's White House Press Briefing, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders stated that there is "no official decision made" on US participation in the Winter Olympics.

A spokesman for the US Olympic Committee said that no conversations about skipping the event had taken place, and that the American delegation of athletes plan on fully participating.

United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley cast doubt on whether America would take part in an interview with the Fox News Channel on Wednesday.

The International Olympic Committee banned the entire Russian Olympic team from the games earlier this week over a doping scandal.

"There is full support from the United Nations, very positive message coming out of the assembly", said Christophe Dubi, the executive director of the Olympic Games.

The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Heightened tensions on the Korea peninsula have raised safety questions about US participation.

However, North Korea has issued similar threats in the past, often condemning Washington and Seoul.

"They're feeling the squeeze, but they have made progress", Haley said on Fox News.

Sterling spikes on news of UK-Ireland trade breakthrough
One solution is to allow Northern Ireland to stay in the customs union when the rest of the United Kingdom leaves. Speaking at a joint press conference in Brussels with Mr Juncker, Mrs May said: "We have been negotiating hard".

"There's an open question", Haley responded.

"In the talks that we have - whether it's Jerusalem or North Korea - it's always about, how do we protect the United States citizens in the area?"

The IOC and United States Olympic Committee (USOC), however, claim to be "closely monitoring" the situation but that it is now safe for competition. As always, the protection of American citizens overseas is our most important priority. "We have to watch this closely, and it is changing by the day".

Speaking in late October, USOC vice president of sport performance Kelly Skinner said, "Every Games environment brings about unique challenges, and we have some tremendous partners in the State Department that can help us prepare".
