The owner of the truck, who KPRC 2 identified as Karen Forsenca, said the sticker would stay up as it has for almost a year, according to the local news station.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office removed a Facebook post involving the F-Trump sticker photo that went viral after the driver was identified.

In the comments of his post, Sheriff Nehls cited Texas disorderly conduct laws as: "(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly: "(1) uses abusive, indecent, profane, or vulgar language in a public place, and the language by its very utterance tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace; (2) makes an offensive gesture or display in a public place, and the gesture or display tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace".

He asked for tips on the identity of the truck's owner and said he would "like to discuss it" with the owner.

"Our Prosecutor has informed us she would accept Disorderly Conduct charges regarding it, but I feel we could come to an agreement regarding a modification to it", the sheriff wrote. The post included a photo of the white pickup truck with the bumper sticker.

Social media commenters nearly immediately took issue with the local lawman's assessment, suggesting that Nehls could infringe on the driver's free speech.

In a Twitter post, the ACLU told the sheriff, "you can't prosecute speech just because it has the word "f*ck" in it".

The controversial sign in question reads, "F (expletive) Trump and f (expletive) you for voting for him".

"It's not to cause hate or animosity", Karen Fonseca told the Chronicle. "Now you have a breach of the peace", said Nehls in a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

The Texas division of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), an organisation that works to defend individual rights, responded to the sheriff on Facebook, writing: "Constitutional Law 101: You can't ban speech just because it has 'f***' in it". "I've been stopped numerous times, but they can't write me a ticket". "They want to shake your hand".

Nehls said he had received many complaints about the language used on the decal and that's why posted the picture.

"A lot of females say I wish I had the balls to do that", she said.
