Self-operating shuttle bus crashes after Las Vegas launch

America's oldest auto association wants consumers to overcome their fear of driverless cars

The truck was reversing into a loading dock, but the driver of the truck couldn't see the shuttle.

The police department, though, cited the driver of a delivery truck for illegal backing in the collision with the shuttle in downtown Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported, and authorities said no injuries were reported in the accident.

Metro responded to an accident involving the shuttle and a delivery truck on the 100 block of S. 6th Street, near Fremont Street, at 12:07 p.m., according to police.

Downing Street 'knew about Priti Patel's secret Israel meetings'
Patel has faced criticism and calls for her to resign or be sacked over the meetings. The PM said her decision was "right" as "further details have come to light".

A driverless shuttle made its debut in Las Vegas Wednesday with a bump. "The shuttle did what it was supposed to do, in that its sensors registered the truck and the shuttle stopped to avoid the accident". Nevertheless, Las Vegas city representatives seem happy at the result - none of the passengers was injured and the shuttle apparently performed as it was created to.

Before it crashed, dozens of people had lined up in downtown Las Vegas to get a free ride. The group will also survey riders before and after each trip to understand why the majority of Americans remain anxious about self-driving technology, and whether the shuttle experience changes their mind.

Two hours after it was launched to much fanfare, a driverless, autonomous shuttle was bumped into by a human-driven delivery truck in Las Vegas.

Qatar Airways Buys Into Yet Another Airline
The 9.6 percent stake, equivalent to 378,188,000 shares of the Asian carrier, was purchased by Qatar Airways for HK$15.6 billion, or $662 million.

The shuttle is manufactured by NAVYA, comes equipped with LiDAR technology, GPS, cameras, and will seat 8 passengers with seatbelts.

The shuttle is sponsored by AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah, and in a year-long pilot project is expected to ferry 250,000 people at a top speed of 15 miles per hour. The shuttle is the country's first autonomous shuttle to be fully integrated with "smart-city" infrastructure, communicating with traffic signals to improve safety and traffic flow. "But the operator of the truck proceeded to back up, not judging where the vehicle was at that time", said Maurice Bell, vice-president of mobility solutions for Keolis.

Navya has a fleet of 50 autonomous shuttle buses deployed worldwide, and says that it has carried over 200,000 passengers so far.
