Driver 'distracted' before killing two children after crashing into school

A Toyota Kluger driven by a woman, 52, hit the weatherboard building at Banksia Road Primary School in Greenacre about 9.45am on Tuesday.

Two boys aged eight years were killed in an unfortunate accident on Tuesday (7 November) morning when a auto crashed into their classroom in Sydney's Greenacre.

The 52-year-old female driver of the Toyota Kluger auto was not injured in the crash.

She said: "There were a number of distressed and overwhelmed children and teachers at a scene of a terrible accident".

"[Paramedics] are trained the deal with such tragedies, and to respond in an appropriate manner is so that the pre hospital care is administered", Radnidge said.

Local TV images showed the vehicle punched through the wall and stopped completely inside the classroom, which is adorned with children's drawings and pictures.

Student Mariam Issmail told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that she saw a teacher faint after the crash, while others loaded children into ambulances. "But then the teachers came and screamed at us to leave everything", she told News Corp Australia's Canterbury-Bankstown Express. One distressed mother said she hadn't heard from her child and feared the worst.

NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith told reporters at the scene: "Obviously, this is a very, very tragic event".

The driver, who did not require medical treatment, was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests. Authorities said they do not believe the crash was intentional.

"We are not looking at this as an intentional act", he said.

"Once all people have been treated and assessed a total of five patients were transported to the Westmead Children's Hospital".
