Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for firing the ballistic missile.

Saudi forces this year have reportedly shot down several missiles from the Yemeni rebels on multiple occasion and is now leading a military campaign against them.

Al-Masira said the missile launched on Saturday evening was made in Yemen and was the third to be fired towards Riyadh this year.

Unconfirmed footage uploaded to Twitter appeared to show a volley of at least three missiles being fired from the ground at an undetermined location in Riyadh.

According to AP, Houthi-owned news outlet Al-Masira reports that the ballistic missile was sacked late Saturday (4 November) from across Saudi Arabia's southern border by Houthi militants in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia has been fighting a proxy war in Yemen against Iran, which it accuses of arming the Houthi rebels.

A Saudi military spokesman condemned the attack in a statement, saying the missile was sacked "indiscriminately" toward a populated civilian area.
