Recalled Ikea dresser reportedly kills EIGHTH child

Jozef Dudek

They say their toddler was resting alone during naptime when a three-drawer Malm dresser from Ikea tipped over and crushed him to death.

Dudek's death is reported to be the eighth child death in connection to an Ikea dresser or chest that was recalled in June 2016.

The litigation will be led by the Feldman Shepherd product liability team of Alan M. Feldman, Daniel J. Mann and Edward S. Goldis, who also represented the families of three other children who suffered fatal injuries caused by Malm dresser tip-overs: Curren Collas of West Chester, Pennsylvania; Camden Ellis of Snohomish, Washington; and Ted McGee of Apple Valley, Minnesota. On Wednesday, an american family of California has claimed to have lost his son 2 years old in the fall of a chest of drawers brand Ikea. "The initial investigation indicates that the chest involved in this incident had not been properly attached to the wall".

Ikea recalled a total of 29 million items sold in the United States past year after the products failed industry safety tests because they could fall over when unattached to a wall.

An IKEA Malm dresser that can tip over when a toddler opens one of the drawers and tries to climb on it has led to another death.

The Malm dresser was recalled in 2015, after two children were crushed by the rawer sets in 2014, notes USA Today. "Be that as it may, it ought to be made safe by plan at first", Feldman said.

"The true tragedy is there might be more of these in the future", Mann said.

US President Donald Trump to allow release of JFK files
That came in a tweet Saturday, which left open the possibility something could still happen to block at least part of the release. The Washington Post reported that Trump had been urged by government agencies, including the CIA to keep the documents secret.

Ikea's efforts included press releases, national news coverage and social media advertisement, among other communication methods.

"We took our responsibility to communicate this recall very seriously and went to great lengths to get the word out", the company's statement said. They also mentioned that they "worked hard to make participation in the recall as easy as possible for consumers. If a consumer is unable to bring the product back to the store, Ikea will arrange to pick it up at their home". Millions of the Sweedish retailer's unsteady dressers were recalled due to the possibility of deadly tipping accidents. Consumers can re-order the kits as needed.

According to a report by the CPSC, a child is injured every 24 minutes and one child dies every two weeks in the US due to furniture or TVs tipping over on them.
