Equifax takes down customer service web page after reports of new hack

Credit reporting giant Equifax Inc.(EFX) Thursday said it has taken down one of its customer help website pages after reports of another potential cyber attack.

Equifax is still reeling from its discovery of a breach that compromised personal data of more than 145.5 million Americans and about 8,000 Canadians.

The firm said it took down the link for credit report assistance temporarily "out of an abundance of caution". Multiple federal and state agencies have started investigating the matter since this information was unveiled.

Last month, Equifax revealed that the hackers exploited a US website application vulnerability to gain access to certain files, which included names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, mailing addresses, and driver's license numbers.

Big-three consumer credit bureau Equifax says it has removed third-party code from its credit report assistance Web site that prompted visitors to download spyware disguised as an update for Adobe's Flash Player software.

The breach led to the retirement of Equifax chief executive Richard Smith, who has remained as a consultant to the company during the investigation.
