Public help sought in finding Las Vegas shooter's motive

The Las Vegas gunman, who killed concertgoers in the city last weekend leaving 59 people dead and more than 500 people wounded, had first opened fire on a security guard.

In addition to killing 58 people in his attack, Paddock injured at least 489 others before taking his own life.

"This individual purposely hid his actions leading up to this event and it is hard for us to find the answers to those actions", Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said. After Jesus Campos, a hotel security guard, took fire on the 32nd floor - Paddock blasted rounds through his door - officers headed up the stairs and found the barricaded stairwell door.

At 10:05 p.m., Paddock, 64, began firing into the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, authorities said.

One of the first memorials services for victims of the Las Vegas shooting massacre was held Saturday in Bakersfield, California, for Jack Beaton, who died shielding his wife from gunfire.

In a timeline released last week, investigators said that the shooting lasted for about nine to 11 minutes.

But on Monday, the timeline changed.

"I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man", Ms Danley in a statement read by her lawyer Matthew Lombard, a criminal defense attorney.

Wednesday through Friday: Expect mostly sunny and warm days with no rain and afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. The remnants of Nate will couple with an approaching cold front tomorrow, so we will be tracking a few passing showers.

U.S. authorities have received more than 1,000 tips, but are still struggling to determine what motivated Paddock, who did not have a criminal record, to carry out the carefully planned attack.

"We do not believe there is one particular event in the suspect's life for us to key on", he said. Paddock instead turned the gun on himself as police stormed his suite.

Instead, Paddock headed toward Las Vegas, home to so numerous casinos where he felt at home.

It has also been widely suspected that Paddock had been scouting out other locations near open-air concerts in the weeks before the Las Vegas attack.

Media captionPolice officers who entered the Las Vegas gunman's hotel room describe what they saw. Lombardo said police have found "no evidence to show that there was a second shooter". "So he had had that written down and figured out so he would know where to shoot to hit his targets from there".

He requested an upper-floor room overlooking the festival, stockpiled 23 guns, a dozen of them modified to fire continuously like an automatic weapon, and set up cameras inside and outside his room to watch for approaching officers.

"So many guns", Newton said in the television interview.

Investigators have chased 1,000 leads and examined Paddock's politics, finances, any possible radicalization and his social behavior - typical investigative avenues that have helped uncover the motive in past shootings.

Goffin has now moved into the final automatic qualification spot for next month's ATP finals in London. Nadal defeated Kyrgios 6-2, 6-1 in what turned out to be a one-sided summit clash in Beijing .

Danley returned on Tuesday from the Philippines, where Paddock had sent her before the attack and was being interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"I knew every day that he would protect me and take care of me and love me unconditionally, and what he did is no surprise to me", she said.

"That's been a matter of discussion, whether what I said was accurate or not.

I could see on it he had written the distance, the elevation he was on, the drop of what his bullet was going to be for the crowd", Newton said.

He also droned on about wacky conspiracy theories - including the notion that 9/11 was in inside job by the USA government - and bragged to the high-priced working girls that he inherited his psycho bank-robber father's evil streak, she said.

That drill work was not finished, Lombardo said.

"A week into this, a lot of people have been numb", said Red Cross spokesman Bill Fortune, who flew in from Colorado to help with the recovery effort.

Las Vegas police officer David Newton told CBS News program 60 Minutes on Sunday that he entered the room and saw a note on the shooter's nightstand with numbers that appeared to be created to help his aim.
