Gen. Mattis Says US Military Should 'Be Ready' Amid North Korea Tensions

James Norman Mattis | TheHill

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis urged the Army Monday to be prepared in case diplomatic relations with North Korea break down.

Defense Secretary James Mattis says the U.S. Army "must stand ready" in the face of continued provocations by the North Korean regime.

"We currently are in a diplomatically led effort and how many times have you seen the UN Security Council vote unanimously, now twice in a row, to impose stronger sanctions on North Korea", Mattis said.

Ivanka Could Run For President In 15 Years, Says Ivana Trump
Despite their messy divorce and his affair, Donald and Ivana are on good terms now, and even speak almost once a week. Trump says her relationship with the President's third wife - first lady Melania Trump - is a totally different story.

In recent days US President Donald Trump has suggested he is considering taking military action after lambasting 25 years of diplomacy that "didn't work".

"A full-blown war on the Korean Peninsula will be horrific by any stretch of the imagination", Milley said to reporters on the sidelines of the same meeting, but added that a missile striking Los Angeles or NY would be "equally frightful". "But so would an intercontinental ballistic missile striking Los Angeles or New York City. That would be equally terrible", Milley said, in comments carried by CNN. Most recently, the USA president said that "only one thing will work" with regard to Pyongyang as "talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid hasn't worked".

But he said while a conflict with the communist state would be "horrific", Mr Miley said there is an "indefinite amount of time" to solve the crisis.

Black Stars Ready For Uganda Showdown
However, with 8 points from five outings, their campaign could be all over if Group E leaders Egypt defeat Congo on Sunday. According to him, "how on earth can this goal be disallowed".

"This is extraordinarily hard, extraordinarily risky".

"What does the future hold?" he asked.

Mattis' talk of keeping the Army ready to carry out that threat only adds to concern that the USA could start a massive war at any moment. "No one should underestimate it", he said, adding, "that decision will be made by the duly elected representatives of the United States of America", not the military. "Neither you nor I can say", he said.

No. 2 Clemson tops Wake Forest 28-14 as Bryant injured
Bryant began the season as Clemson's starting quarterback, beating out Cooper and Hunter Johnson for the job during camp. Wake Forest: The Demon Deacons are certainly improved, but not yet ready to take down the Tigers.

Without accounting for the use of nuclear weapons, it is estimated that as many as 1 million people would die from a conflict between the US and North Korea.
