Women accused in Kim Jong Nam's death plead not guilty

Pyongyang also targeted Jong-nam’s son says WSJ

Idris was one of a number of witnesses to recount the Kim Jong-nam's final moments as the trial began in Malaysia of two women accused of brazenly assassinating him on February 13 by smearing an exotic poison on his face.

The two are accused of smearing Kim Jong Nam's face with a toxic VX nerve agent, killing him at Kuala Lumpur airport February 13.

Pyongyang has denied any involvement in the killing, but in court prosecutors said that four men - believed to be four North Koreans who fled Malaysia on the day of murder - were also charged in the case.

Defence lawyers are convinced the real culprits have left Malaysia and that the women's innocence will be proven in court.

Vital organs, including his lungs and brain, swelled due to a build-up of fluid, testified Mohamad Shah Mahmood, who carried out the post-mortem on Kim Jong-nam.

The half-brother of North Korea's leader suffered extensive organ damage after being attacked with a nerve agent, a pathologist said yesterday, as more chilling details emerged at the trial of his alleged killers.

India and Afghanistan sign MoU on police training
USA officials have long said that Pakistan turns a blind eye to militants operating along the porous Afghan border. Both leaders reaffirmed the strength and closeness of the strat-egic partnership between India and Afghanistan.

North Korea has denounced the speculation and has not even acknowledged that the dead man was Kim Jong-nam.

After about an hour in the clinic, Kim was put in an ambulance to nearby Putrajaya Hospital, but the 45-year-old died en route.

Malaysian prosecutors have said both women would face a mandatory death sentence if convicted.

It's widely believed North Korean agents orchestrated the hit through two party girls that the Malaysian media has described as hookers.

The court heard the testimony of airport worker Juliana Idris and Police Lance Corporal Mohd Zulkarnain Sanudin, who saw Kim before he died in the airport clinic.

Dr Nik Mohd Adzrul Ariff Raja Azlan, a doctor at the Menara Medical Clinic in KLIA2, said the mixture of liquids inside the mouth was blocking his view as he searched for the opening to the victim's trachea.

The prosecution stated in its charge sheet the pair's actions showed "intent to kill the victim" by dousing his face and eyes with VX, a nerve agent that is banned by the United Nations.

Kim weighed 96 kilograms and had tattoos on his chest, arms and back, including a coloured dragon head breathing fire and a man with two fish-like figures, the report said.

According to Aisyah's lawyer, Gooi Soon Seng, the 25-year-old did not know she had poison on her hand when she smeared Mr Kim's face.

But the women have claimed North Korean agents tricked them into doing it. They argue that their clients, who were living precarious existences among Malaysia's army of migrant workers, are simply taking the rap.
