Charles Bradley Passes Away At 68

After a battle with cancer, soul great Charles Bradley has sadly passed away.

The news was announced via the singer's official Twitter account on Saturday. "I love all of you out there that made my dreams come true", he said at the time.

"Mr. Bradley was truly grateful for all the love he s received from his fans and we hope his message of love is remembered and carried on", a statement said.

He had recently returned to live performance after receiving treatment for stomach cancer late previous year. Bradley passed away Saturday from cancer, which he was diagnosed with in October 2016. He released his debut album No Time For Dreaming in 2011, which was praised for it's classically-informed soul sound and Bradley's powerful and charismatic voice.

Born in Gainesville, Fla., Bradley grew up in Brooklyn but left home at the age of 14. In the 1990s, after moving back to NY to reconnect with his mother, Bradley began working in earnest as a James Brown impersonator (Bradley saw Brown perform at the Apollo Theater when he was a child).

His third and last album, 2016's Changes, figured on several music magazines' lists of the year's top albums and, despite Bradley's Christian beliefs, featured a remake of occult-dabbling metal band Black Sabbath in its title song.
