DHS: Colorado's election system targeted but not breached by Russian activity

Russian hackers tried unsuccessfully to access Washington's election systems before the 2016 general election, according to the state Secretary of State's Office.

Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Michael Haas said Homeland Security told 21 states that "Russian government cyber actors" targeted their state voter registration systems in 2016. Pate says nothing was compromised or hacked.

The North Carolina agency says it's still reviewing what caused Election Day problems in Durham County with software that checked whether voters were registered to cast ballots and asking federal authorities to clarify whether they've ruled out Russian interference.

States that told The Associated Press they had been targeted include Alabama, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

IN got better news, with DHS reporting it had not detected any Russian attempts to hack into the state's voter registration systems, according to Valerie Warycha, deputy chief of staff for Secretary of State Connie Lawson.
