James Anderson delights Lord's crowd in reaching 500 Test wickets

First Englishman James Anderson celebrates his 500th Test wicket yesterday

Only Ben Stokes defied the conditions as wickets continued to tumble in the final test between England and West Indies on Friday - two of them to James Anderson to see him become just the sixth bowler to pass 500 test wickets. West Indies went into lunch on 35-2 and Anderson ominously poised to reach another landmark after picking up wicket number 499.

Only spinners Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708) and Anil Kumble (619) stand above the vaunted pace trio in the list.

Malan, still to cement his England place ahead of the upcoming Ashes tour of Australia, swished his bat in frustration after the end of a 31-ball innings including three fours.

Stokes has played a lot of his cricket at the venue being a Durham player and as such the decision has upset some involved with the cash-strapped County.

"I just want to keep playing as long as possible", he added.

It took Stokes four overs to strike, ending Kieran Powell's resistance by taking an excellent low caught and bowled chance and giving the West Indies' domino-like batting card a hefty shove in the process.

China Wants 'Improved Ties Between Afghanistan, Pakistan'
Chinese foreign minister expressed unconditional support for Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. China has a lot of strategic and security concerns at stake in Pakistan.

On the contest itself, which will determine the outcome of a three-match series that is tied at 1-1, Stokes added: "We've done extremely well to bowl them out for around 120, [but] obviously we lost two wickets more than we wanted to".

In honour of Anderson joining such an elite club, we pick out the highlights of his Test career to date.

"I felt I was letting the team down a little bit, so to bowl like I did today was a monkey off my back", said Stokes, who had previously struggled for rhythm due to a knee injury sustained this summer and came into the series decider with 10 wickets at 44 apiece from his previous six Tests.

It was Stokes who was the hero, returning career-best figures of 6-22, though England soon surrendered the initiative by collapsing to 46-4 in response.

Anderson, who made his global debut over 15 years ago, is naturally viewed as England's greatest ever bowler but a former team-mate says the accolades should not stop there. His return to the team on the 2008 tour of New Zealand - having reverted to the distinctive delivery style that sees his head facing the ground - marked the start of his ascent to becoming England's most prolific worldwide wicket-taker.

By the time New Zealand visited England in 2008, Anderson and a certain Stuart Broad were part of a new-look England attack that was starting to thrive.

Investigators were not granted access to Syria and based their report on photos of bomb remnants, satellite imagery and witness accounts.

"I got injured, left out of the side".

After a 40-minute break for rain, Anderson took his second wicket in 12 balls at no cost when Hope tried to bail out of a drive but not before edging another catch to Jonny Bairstow to go for an 11-ball duck.

"I knew I had some skills". A lot less than a lot of other fast bowlers.

"Normally, I feel different sorts of emotions, like anger!"

Having reached 500 Test scalps, England legend Ian Botham believes Anderson must now have his sights set on becoming the most successful seam bowler of all time.
