Senate committee to interview Trump Jr. behind closed doors

Manafort Blocks FBI from Obtaining Transcript of Interview with Senate Committee

Donald Trump Jr. on Thursday told Senate investigators that he always planned to talk to his counsel about whether to use dirt on Hillary Clinton offered by a Russian lawyer past year, The New York Times reported, citing a statement it obtained.

Congressional committees and Special Counsel Robert Mueller have been scrutinizing the meeting as part of investigations into Russia's interference in the 2016 election and any possible coordination with Trump associates.

Lawmakers will question the president's son about his 2016 meeting with a woman described as a Russian government lawyer.

Trump Jr refuted the claim saying the meeting which was attended by the then campaign manager, Paul Manafort and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner was not in respect to the election and thus falsely reported.

Earlier in the summer, news broke that Trump Jr. and members of the Trump campaign met with Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer with government connections, in an effort to receive compromising information on then-campaign rival Hillary Clinton.

Later, she stabbed Rosemary La Bianca over a dozen times in addition to holding a pillowcase over her head as others stabbed her. Van Houten and her attorney argue she was immature at the time, and couldn't break free of Manson or his ideas.

Senate intelligence committee chairman Richard Burr, and the panel's top Democrat, Mark Warner, privately met Wednesday and said that they'd like to talk to other attendees of the Trump Tower meeting before meeting with Trump Jr., which could push back the panel's plans to hear from the President's son this month.

Blumenthal also said he expected Trump Jr. would testify under oath later at a public hearing.

The staffers in question were aboard Air Force One when President Trump "was involved in the crafting of the statement".

Senators don't send out copies of statutes about making false statements to Congress on the same day that the President's son testifies about the Russian Federation scandal as a coincidence. Cohen said he sent the message on the recommendation of Trump associate Felix Sater, a Russian-born developer and US citizen.

Congressional investigations of Russian meddling in the US election likely will be extended - perhaps into next year - because of revelations during Congress' August recess about Trump associates' contacts and meetings, Democrats on the Senate and House intelligence committees said Tuesday.

Separately, the House Intelligence Committee has subpoenaed the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for documents related to a dossier of salacious allegations involving President Donald Trump and possible ties to Russian Federation.

Trump said he had concerns about the invitation he got from Rob Goldstone, a music promoter he knew from his business dealings in Russian Federation.

A handful of Democratic senators, including Sen. The Trump campaign has denied the accusations; Trump Jr. did so again Thursday. Emails obtained by The Times revealed that Trump Jr. orchestrated the meeting.

The meeting was publicly disclosed in July 2017, and Trump Jr. released several differing statements about the meeting before releasing copies of the emails that show the scheduling of the meeting.

Senate aides anticipate a lengthy interview. Schiff says the House committee also expects to interview him.
