Tropical Storm Jose forms to the east of Irma

Tropical Storm Jose looms right behind Hurricane Irma

Even though hurricane season stretches across six months, the majority of hurricanes occur in August, September, and October, according to The Washington Post.

As of a 10:00 AM, tropical storm Jose was located to the east of Hurricane Irma.

As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jose was a minimal tropical storm, with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour with higher gusts.

The hurricane center said Tuesday Jose had 40 miles per hour winds, and was moving west-northwest at 13 miles per hour.

Tropical Storm Jose has become the 10th named tropical storm of the season.

Irma is still about 1,500 miles away from Florida, but all of South Florida, including Palm Beach County, is now in the five-day forecast track cone.

By this weekend, Jose is then expected to slow down and turn northwest. The hurricane center cautioned those in the islands to also monitor Jose's progress. "Don't freak out, but focus on your hurricane plan and preparations for any kind of impact".

When the Bermuda high is strong and expansive, it allows little southward dip in the jet stream, so it helps channel hurricanes westward into the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico or the East Coast.

It is not expected to threaten the northern Gulf Coast, according to the National Weather Service.

When the Bermuda high is weak or if there is a strong southern plunge of the jet stream, hurricanes can get pulled around the west side of the Bermuda high and directed toward the northeast Atlantic, the northeastern coast or even the Atlantic coast of Canada. I have continued to be briefed by the Florida Division of Emergency Management on Hurricane Irma and current forecast models have Florida in Irma's path - potentially impacting millions of Floridians.

Texas recovery could cost $180 bn: Governor
Many areas of Texas were still battling floodwaters from swollen rivers that were expected to remain for a week or more. He said Harvey could ultimately cost more, considering the greater magnitude of Harvey compared to Katrina.

Irma's future, and that of the US coastline, is dependent on two atmospheric features: the Bermuda High and an upper-level low moving west to east through the central U.S.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Irma is continuing its trek toward Florida.

Florida is now preparing for the possibility of Irma.

On Irma's heels is a system the NHC is giving a 90 percent chance of development over five days.
