Dhaka -Border guard troopers have beefed up security on southeastern frontier as Rohingya Muslims fleeing violence in neighbouring Myanmar's Rakhine state trying to cross into Bangladesh, officials said. The total includes at least 80 insurgents and 12 members of the security forces.

An insurgent group known as the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, formerly known as Harakat al-Yaqeen - or "Faith Movement" - claimed responsibility on Twitter for the attack.

The crackdown by security forces following the attack has prompted thousands of Rohingyas to flee their homeland for security.

So far, the government has reportedly evacuated at least 4,000 villagers, with almost 2,000 Rohingya Muslims, mostly women and children, fleeing across the border to Bangladesh, where they are now living as refugees in makeshift camps along the border.

Cox's Bazar: Bangladesh has detained and forcibly returned 90 Rohingya migrants to Myanmar, police said Sunday, just hours after Myanmarese troops on the other side of the border had opened fire on people fleeing the country.

They're going to load up between 4 to 6 trailers full of supplies, including water, snacks, first aid supplies and other basics. NY is sending 120 of its Bravest and Finest to Texas to rescue people from the epic storm, officials announced Sunday.

Members of the Muslim Rohingya minority escaped to the border with Bangladesh but Bangladeshi border guards are turning them back.

"Around 2,000 to 2,500 Rohingyas got into Bangladesh from Myanmar this evening [yesterday]", chairman of Ghumdum Union Parishad Md Zahangir Alam said.

The insurgents had used firearms and improvised explosive devices in attacks that left at least six civilians dead, the newspaper said, including a child shot in front of a hospital.

One army source said the military was also struggling to differentiate. Witnesses said they heard gunshots and Bangladeshi villagers said they could see military helicopters hovering. "They don't care if they die or not".

"They came with rods and sticks to drive us to the border".

The UN believes that the "clearances" operations by government security forces have amounted to ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya, a mainly Muslim minority living in Buddhist Myanmar.

The treatment of the Rohingya population has emerged as the biggest challenge for national leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Win Myat Aye, Myanmar's minister for social welfare, relief and resettlement, told Reuters late on Saturday that 4,000 "ethnic villagers" who had fled their villages had been evacuated, referring to non-Muslim residents of the area.

"We are providing all support to the people cooperating with the state government and local authorities", said Win Myat Aye to the media.

The government uses the term "Bengali" to describe the stateless Rohingya, because it maintains they are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
