Bihar Flood Worsens, Toll Rises To 119

91 killed, 9.6 million people affected by floods in eastern India

With floods claiming 34 more lives Bihar in the last 24 hours, the death toll in the state rose to 153 on Friday, officials said. Around 1.26 crore people are facing the deluge in 18 districts of the state.

Authorities are running 328 relief camps and distribution centres in 13 districts, where 68,014 people have taken shelter.

According to reports, further rains may pound Gaya, Bhagalpur and Purnea on Saturday.

Inspecting the situation aerially, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar instructed the officials on intensive air-dropping of food packets in all the 17 districts, with a special focus on Kursakanta, Palasi, Sikti, and Jokihaat in Araria and the Sugauli area in East Champaran.

All the northeastern states have remained cut off from the other parts of country as rail connectivity snapped forcing the Railway Board to suspend train services beyond Malda and Alipurduar (West Bengal). Yesterday, NDRF teams rescued 08 persons, evacuated 3352 persons from Balrampur, Bahraich, Shravasti, Maharajganj, Barakanki, Lakhimpur Kheri, Gorakhpur and Sidharthnagar district of Uttar Pradesh.

Almost 1,500 people have been moved to safer places in various districts.

In West Bengal, the situation improved in Uttar Dinajpur.
