Texas A&M calls off white supremacist event after Charlottesville violence

White nationalist blames police for Charlottesville, Virginia violence

Texas A&M said that the "White Lives Matter" rally has been canceled.

Texas A&M University late Monday called off a planned white supremacist rally on its campus next month, citing concerns of a "major security risk" following the demonstrations that turned deadly over the weekend in Virginia.

"Texas A&M's support of the First Amendment and the freedom of speech can not be questioned", the school said in a statement. Preston Wiginton claims that the university did so because they do not care about white people.

"Legal experts and academics say that public colleges and universities need to prove a real threat and meet a high standard of proof before invoking student and attendee welfare as a reason to curtail expression protected by the First Amendment", Insider Higher Ed wrote.

Yesterday, Texas A&M University cancelled a rally that was to feature white supremacist Richard Spencer as the headline speaker and was organized by white supremacist Preston Wiginton.

Spencer spoke at the university in 2016, leading to thousands of protesters showing up on campus in response. University administrators consulted with law enforcement, system leaders and regents before cancelling the rally, spokeswoman Amy Smith said.

"I now know what it was like to be black in the 1960s because clearly civil rights does not mean anything for white people in America anymore". The protest was to be held on September 11 and was being organized by White Nationalist Preston Wiginton.

"If we know it's definitely happening, you need to get working and planning now", Emerson said.

Coutinho panicking over now or never move to Barcelona: Steven Gerrard
I think Alberto [Moreno] loses a really high challenge and there should be another player, then you can't play the pass in behind. Barca had a £90 million ($116 million) bid for Coutinho rejected this week, prompting the player's decision to demand a move.

The university said the rally would no longer take place after events in Charlottesville, which saw one woman killed and dozens injured when a man with views sympathetic to neo-Nazis deliberately ploughed a vehicle into a crowd of anti-fascist campaigners.

He also said that he had chosen Texas A&M as the venue because its students are generally nonviolent and because he felt the police would do a better job protesting them.

Demonstrators said they meant to use nonviolent methods to show "that members of the Aggie community do not support the hateful bigotry espoused by Wiginton and the planned speakers".

Adam Key, event organizer of BTHOHate said in a press release his organization is proud of his university for shutting the rally down. It is clear that the event posed a danger to the student body and Texas A&M did the right thing to protect its students.
