Farah denied final gold by Ethiopian Edris

Mo Farah takes world 5000m silver to fall short of a farewell double

The 34-year-old had been unbeaten for six years against the best in the world. That's what they did tonight, and the better man won on the day.

In a thrilling finale featuring four athletes careering towards the line, Farah snatched back second place behind Edris, who clocked 13 minutes 32.79 seconds after a searing final lap of 52.6 seconds.

Momentarily, it looked like Farah might not even take a medal.

Farah, who had won the 10,000m last Friday to open the championships with a bang, said he couldn't have given it more but added he had proved that it was possible to break up the Ethiopian and Kenya hegemony over the distance races.

In the end, it was a tremendous race as Edris, Farah, Paul Kipkemoi Chelimo and Yomif Kejelcha separated themselves from the field on the back straight of an exhilarating final lap.

Admitting he had been outmanoeuvred, Farah said: "I got boxed in early on - it doesn't normally happen - but I got boxed in early and couldn't get out".

Big Buffalo Bills shakeup: Watkins traded
Some would say the writing was on the wall for Watkins when the Bills declined to exercise the fifth-year option on his contract. Watkins had been the Bills starter since Buffalo traded up five spots in the 2014 draft to select him with the No. 4 pick.

Farah was welcomed to the start line by another roar from the London Stadium crowd and urged them to keep going with a wave of the hand in the opening paces.

That effort may well have taken more out of him that Farah himself had realised.
