U.S. 'successfully' tests THAAD by launching ballistic missile over Pacific

US tests defense system after North Korea missile launch

"In addition to a successful target intercept data collected will allow the missile defense Agency to improve the defense system THAAD, our modeling capabilities and the ability to stay ahead of the evolving threat", said Lieutenant General of the air force Sam greaves, Director of the Agency of missile defense.

According to a press release the THAAD weapon system located in the Pacific Spaceport Complex in Kodiak, Alaska detected, tracked and intercepted a medium-range target ballistic missile air-launched over the Pacific Ocean.

The test came the same day that two United States supersonic B-1 bombers flew over the Korean Peninsula, following joint military drills with Japan, in a show-of-force response to North Korea's test-fire of what Washington deemed the isolated nation's second intercontinental ballistic missile on Friday.

If Friday's missile had been fired on a flatter, standard trajectory, it would have reached as far as NY and Boston, according to David Wright, a missile expert at the Union of Concerned Scientists, in an interview with CNN.

Iran accuses U.S. navy of firing warning shots at its vessels
In January, the USS Mahan fired shots toward Iranian fast-attack boats as they neared the destroyer in the Strait of Hormuz. The Navy ship fired warning shots into the water over concerns of a collision, one of the officials said.

USA forces sent two B-1 bombers from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam on a 10-hour round trip Saturday over the Korean Peninsula.

The "Flight Experiment THAAD" test was aimed at gathering "threat data from a THAAD interceptor in flight", according to the USA military.

"We assess that this missile was an intercontinental ballistic missile, as had been expected", Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said in a statement.

While Washington continues its military pressure, it has also asked China to pressure North Korea economically to cut off its access to foreign currency.

The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed sanctions on six Iranian firms owned or controlled by the Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group.

U.S., President Donald Trump had condemned the launch branding it as "reckless and dangerous".

The Department of Defense has released video footage of Sunday's test of a USA missile defense system. The People's Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un was cited as saying that the test reaffirmed the country's ability to range the "entire" USA mainland with its weapons, the Guardian reported.

The exercise will help the U.S.

He assured that the US will take all necessary steps to ensure the security of the American homeland and protect its allies in the region. China has dramatically increased its sphere of influence over the region in recent years by expanding its Naval forces across man-made islands that span large parts of the South China Sea.

Portman votes down Obamacare repeal, says it would be 'disastrous'
On the Senate floor, McCain said he would not vote for the health care bill until a number of provisions supported by Gov. Rand Paul introduced the amendment - within two years, and come up with a replacement plan in the meantime.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, has said that deployment of THAAD elements in South Korea and Alaska "destroys the strategic balance in the world". South Korea had earlier deployed two such units but the rest were delayed due to environmental concerns.
