Iran accuses U.S. navy of firing warning shots at its vessels

Iran US Navies Engage in Second Encounter in One Week

On Saturday, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) reported a second provocation by USA warships in the Persian Gulf waters less than a week after a similar incident.

"At 04:00 p.m. local time (1130 GMT) on Friday, the Supercarrier USS Nimitz and the accompanying warship approached the IRGC vessels and flew a helicopter in Resalat oil-gas field", IRGC statement said.

A U.S. Navy ship Tuesday fired warning shots at an Iranian vessel that had come too close during a military exercise in the region, the U.S. Navy said.

The Navy ship fired warning shots into the water over concerns of a collision, one of the officials said.

A USA defense official told NBC News that three Iranian boats were involved and at least one of them had sped toward the USS Princeton, which was part of the Nimitz's carrier strike group. "A strong answer will be given to the action by the United States".
